There was no doubt that the woman who called herself Evie Shaw was the key to the high-tech conspiracy that threatened Robert Cannon's computer company - and he meant to take her down personally. But as he trailed her into the heart of a long, hot Southern summer, he found himself questioning everything he believed. For he was face-to-face with a breathtaking passion - for a woman who had to be as guilty as sin...

Love this story. Linda Howard writes such strong female characters that it is hard not to become enraptured with them. The narrator did an excellent job of giving each character their own life and breathing a depth into the story. One of my favorite stories.

Best if read after Duncan’s Bride, featuring Madelyn Patterson. Robert Cannon is Madelyn’s stepbrother and I’d always looked forward to his story but was So disappointed with what a jackass he turned out to be. He So did Not deserve Evangeline.
I really wanted HIM to suffer and suffer because he hurt her on so many levels. I wanted to smack the arrogance and ignorance out of him, and I don’t like feeling so evil.
Lockford did an ok job of narration.

smack that boy!

I liked the book as a whole, but so very many things bothered me. I spent most of the book thinking what a presumptuous jerk the main male character was, while wondering why Evangeline took it. Then I wondered where her backbone was and why her wants and wishes were never discussed. Do not want to do a spoiler... but at the end, why don’t we know what happened to the Marina and her old friends and life? Love is not the only answer, compromise and caring what are the wants of both characters is necessary. I found myself wishing for more of a backbone from Evangeline and more information then happily ever after with kids.

Good characters and performance
