Seventeen-year-old Jewel Combs is not a lady. She is a guttersnipe living hand-to-mouth on London's mean streets when she meets a dying man who marries her to spite his aristocratic family. Cold, aloof, breathtakingly handsome, Sebastian, Earl of Moorland, is the head of that family, and when widowed Jewel belligerently presents herself to him as his newest relative his inclination is to throw her back out on the streets. But instead he accepts her into the family to spite his icy, unloving mother, on the condition that Jewel let him turn her into Julia Stratham, lady of the town. Sparks fly between them as Jewel becomes Julia, a stunning beauty, and Sebastian finds himself falling head over heels in love with his own creation. But Sebastian has learned in a hard school that love is not to be trusted...

The quality of the audio and the narrator are so bad I gave up about 25% in and returned the book. If I were the publisher/author, I would pay to have it re-recorded with a different narrator. Proof that a narrator can make or break a book.

Couldn’t finish audio so bad

Story was great but the audio was unbelievably bad at times after every sentence she took long terrible breaths

Horrendous audio

The narrator was awful. The inflection in our voices and the miss reads and the stumbling was very difficult to get through. The storyline was really cute. Loved it had the ups and downs that Karen Robards is known for. I just wish she would write more books along the lines of the last time I saw her the Charlie Stone series. That’s what got me hooked. I loved hush and all her other past books. This one was not my favorite.

My fair lady reminds me sort of

Well-written and interesting, but spoiled by too many steamy parts for me which made print choice better than audio because of the difficulty of skipping pages in audio. Poor narration in many parts, mispronouced words, narrater's heavy breathing interfered with clear reading.

Lots of steamy parts

The narrator helped me get into the story and feel the emotions of the characters. Very well done. I enjoyed the story very much. The narrator did well in keeping in with the characters attitudes and personalities.

A great reader
