Dr. William Stonehurst has found not just a treatment, but an actual cure for severe PTSD by developing a way to remove the memory of the trauma that caused the PTSD. He then discovers that it is possible to place these removed memories in another person, and it becomes an option for sentencing for repeat violent offenders. Implanting memories of people who suffered the type of violence that the convict perpetrated is thought to reduce recidivism, make them feel real empathy for their victims, and increase the chances of rehabilitation.

But Dr. Stonehurst has a dark secret and plans to use the procedure to punish and torture those who slip through the cracks of the justice system.
This book had graphic descriptions of violence.

I’m so happy to get to listen to this book! This book challenges moral compasses and ethical dilemmas. Is Dr. Stonehurst the good guy? The bad guy? I’m still not sure. Great work!

Great story to make you question your morals!

MIRE is a psychological thriller that explores the moral ambiguity of criminal reform through subjecting criminals to the violent memories of their victims as part of their rehabilitation. The author is very descriptive of prison life and knowledgeable of medical procedures to the point I cannot imagine what his search history looked like researching for this book. Overall it was an enjoyable read and made me wonder what I would have done if I was in the main characters shoes.

The story drew me in starting from the first chapter! I couldn't wait to hear the rest. I was surprised when it ended. The science was very cool. Its not a childrens book, there are a few prison scenes and rape.

I couldn't stop listening!
