Wolves raised in the wild are not inherently dangerous to humans. The wolf usually avoids people. Seventeen-thousand wolves live in Europe. Wolf encounters are very rare. When wolves sense that humans, a potential threat, are in the area, they usually retreat quickly and quietly. However, humans may arouse the interest of wolves, and wolves may observe humans closely.
