Georges Joseph Christian Simenon (1903 – 1989) was a Belgian writer who claimed to have slept with 10,000 women in his search for "la femme." His literary output was nearly as prolific yet always quite good.

This is a truly curious tale that spans decades and pushes Magret's investigative talents to the limits.

My favorite Maigret story.

Truly haunting. Great police work on locating the identity of a transient going back 20 years. Loner is word that conjures up so many meanings as Maigret gets to the heart of things. And the heart is what mattered in this tale.
