To most of us, learning something "the hard way" implies wasted time and effort. Good teaching, we believe, should be creatively tailored to the different learning styles of students and should use strategies that make learning easier.

Make It Stick turns fashionable ideas like these on their head. Many common study habits and practice routines turn out to be counterproductive. Underlining and highlighting, rereading, cramming, and single-minded repetition of new skills create the illusion of mastery, but gains fade quickly. More complex and learning come from self-testing, introducing certain difficulties in practice, waiting to re-study new material until a little forgetting has set in, and interleaving the practice of one skill or topic with another. Speaking most urgently to students, teachers, trainers, and athletes, Make It Stick will appeal to all those interested in the challenge of lifelong learning and self-improvement.

Loved the way the authors merged stories, research and ways to apply it in a meaningful read. This is what everyone who cares about learners of all ages should know.

Great book about how to learn and remember.

I've read about a dozen books on cognitive science, and this one ranks as one of the most useful and well researched.

Great learning resource

Let me preface that I do highly enjoy the book. It is extremely well written and the subject matter of continuous learning is something I’ve always had a great interest in.
With that in mind if you are hoping to just have a book tell you what to do about how to retain information and you are wanting the information from the very beginning it’s not going to be that way. ( Which is what I was expecting)
They authors place examples and research in order to fill the book obviously but also to teach you while you’re reading/listening the key concepts on how to retain memory.
Tricky.
But I enjoyed it.

Understand that this book is informative but also very technical

I can already tell this is a book i will refer back to and read through again. I love the fact and data driven advice, and structures put in place for learning. I enjoyed the mix of empirical data with anecdotal stories encompassing and giving body to the points. The most impressive part is throughout the book it is practicing what it preaches to even further demonstrate the effectiveness of active learning.

Practical Perfection
