The remnants of the Expeditionary Force stranded on the alien-controlled planet "Paradise" get a chance to prove themselves, in a simple off-world training mission with a ship full of teenage alien cadets.

When the mission goes horribly wrong and the survival of everyone on Paradise is at risk, the Merry Band of Pirates may have to come to the rescue. Unless they get killed first....

this series is one of my absolute favorites I routinely restart the series before each book is released so that I am caught up with everything and each time I always find something I didn't notice before if you haven't picked the series up you should it is excellent. furthermore RC Bray is one of the best if not the best narrator in the business. 90% of my book purchases are related to books that he narrates.

another excellent adventure with the merry band of

I have waited anxiously for each installment if the X Force books. The characters come to life in a manner only R. C. Bray can deliver. Craig Alanson writes a riveting tail with more twists and turns than a Formula One road course.

Hilarious and engaging

I stopped reading this series for a year because of all the negative reviews for this book.

Boy, what that a mistake, this was one of the best yet.

Yes, half the book is not about skippy and monkeys.

And it's all the better for it. Frankly, I'm getting sick of skippy. It was refreshing to read some straight up military sci-fi for a change without the annoying beer can involved.

Don't believe the negative reviews.

Yes, others reviewers are accurate that this title spends most of this time with the crew from Paradise. Personally, I feel like the possibilities that have been opened within this book give a new life to the way we experience the story. We finally saw a direct interaction something other than the Ruhar or Kristang. We saw respect for humans in the galaxy actually being discussed. We were shown what could be some of the first non-humans on The Dutchman in the future. We were also given an old-new group of individuals that may experience hardship in a way the series doesn't often tackle.

I personally was tired of the predictable back-and-forth between Skippy and Bishop, or how a visit to the gym/gally and a completely forced conversation gives Joe the idea needed to save the day. This book does open doors for the story but does so in a way people weren't expecting.

Finally, any reviewer who gives the performance 1-star because they dislike the book should be ashamed. R.C. Bray does a fantastic job again, no matter what your opinion about the book.

Not a complete side-story. Future possibilities!
