What do you know about Calvinism?

There are so many misconceptions about Calvinism that it is safe to say that even most Christians do not truly know what it teaches. You may have grown up in a Reformed church, or you may have heard about Calvinism mostly in arguments. Either way, it may surprise you to know that this belief has huge, and very positive, implications for a believer's daily life!

Jim Orrick clears up misinformation about Calvinism and explains its basic yet profound ideas and teachings - using the Bible as the basis for everything he says.

With an engaging, clear, and friendly style, he describes the basics of what Calvinism teaches, explores each of the five points that summarize its positions, and addresses rebuttals and misunderstandings. Learn why the teachings of Calvinism not only matter, but can renew your trust and hope in the gospel!

This book is easy to follow along with and the points he makes are backed by Scripture. It’s not every day you listen to a pastor who so easily explains the Doctrines of Grace in a way anyone can follow. This is a must listen if you’re a Calvinist or not. For those of us who are Calvinists it gives us ways to talk to our non Calvinistic friends and family. For those who aren’t Calvinist this book challenges you in a way that will make you appreciate God more.

Much of this book was just standard Calvinist doctrine and proof texts… until you get to chapter 7. Once I hit chapter 7, I found it very hard to finish the rest of the book. There are more than a few standard calvinist straw men, strewn through the book prior, but once you hit chapter 7 it is a non stop stream of them. Everything is “you believe this or else this”, despite the fact that it is just one non sequitur after another.

I honestly had hoped to gain more respect for the theology of Calvinism, through this book. It has changed nothing. He uses every worn out non sequitur you run into in any conversation with a Calvinist. :(

Standard Calvinist apologetic.
