Old friend Marty O'Bannon, San Francisco Homicide Detective, calls FBI Agent Zack Tolliver early one morning for advice. O'Bannon is at the scene of a murder, the victim's throat ravaged as if by an animal, and no clues to the killer. He now has three particularly vicious unsolved murders, all with the same MO. It is just Zack's kind of case. Agent Tolliver agrees to assist, but a current case at the Navajo Indian Reservation prevents him from leaving. He will send old friend and mentor Eagle Feather in his stead. But what Eagle Feather learns in San Francisco will inevitably draw Zack to the city and into the vortex of a deadly mystery where the hunters become the hunted.

I appreciate how Gamble has woven spiritual and mystical stories into present day crime stories. His story doesn’t require the reader to accept the mystical criminal as he does offer a human criminal. The mystical creatures are interesting.

Nice mix of scientific and mystical
