A jungle planet must defend against exploitative aliens in this novel by the number one New York Times best-selling author of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

From the rich imagination of science-fiction great Alan Dean Foster comes the story of Midworld, a Humanx Commonwealth planet that's equally fragile and hostile. Covered by a lush rainforest, Midworld is home to a primitive society that lives in harmony with the natural world. But the arrival of an exploitative human company, whose workers know nothing of Midworld's delicate ecosystem, sparks a conflict. Should Midworld's villagers aid the humans or stand against them?

The hero of Foster's addictive pause-resister, Born, decides to lead two humans across the perilous jungle. His choice propels Midworld toward annihilation - and leads him headlong into a battle for survival.

I remember when my late father brought me this book when I was a kid. Still a great story. The narrator was perfect for this book. Classic. Makes me think that some of the ideas for Pandora world building could have started here.

Excellent story

The world building and description is absolutely amazing. The storyline itself is pretty simple, but well executed. Some of the scenes and vivid descriptions will give you goosebumps. Well worth a listen/read.

What the title says. Truly one of the greatest tales demonstrating our place as humans not apart from, but a part OF the biological world we are blessed to have evolved from. The folly of capitalist extraction, borrowing without returning, without ever preaching, was a beautiful thing to experience. If every kid had this as required reading in school, and understood the reality that this so called fiction detailed, our world would be a better place. Like Adrian Tchaikovsky, this author somehow explores all these themes with such detailed explanations of dangerous and exciting forms of life, at once at odds with yet essential to the animals we call humans, that it’s impossible to put down once you start reading. The giant’s dialogue becomes a bit draining at times, but that’s the only fault I could find. Do yourself a favour and go on this journey,!-!: take its lessons with you.
