Golf is a Zen sport. If you leave the present moment, you will likely feel the immediate karmic consequences like a hammer hitting your thumb.

In The Mindful Golfer: How to Lower Your Handicap While Raising Your Consciousness, Stephen Altschuler helps you nail it all right - hard and true and into another level of surrender, satisfaction, and, self-awareness. He uses the tools of Zen to raise the game several notches on the ladder of consciousness. The book discusses the state of the game, some of its more illustrious players, its glories, and its challenges. The author covers some of his own struggles with golf, and some moments of achievement, if only fleeting. His book is a reflective look at golf today, emphasizing the mental and spiritual elements of the game.

I love how this book interweaves Buddhist philosophy with Golf. Mental attitude is so important in golf, and what better way to get your thoughts under control than with the centuries old wisdom of Buddhas insights. Non attachment to your results is actually a great way to handle golf - the good the bad and the ugly. If you can take this book's recommendations to heart, I believe it will make you a better golfer - and have a better disposition in life as well. Really enjoyed it.

Love mixing Buddhist Philosophy with Golf

Perhaps it was the timing of when I read/listened to this, or maybe it would have had the same impact. Either way, because of travel I have not been playing much golf and yearning to get back out there. Most of what I’ve been thinking about has been scoring, my swing, and lowering my index. This book made me reconnect with how much I love the game and how blessed I am to be able to play it.

Advice and Insights that go beyond the game of golf

Despite narration mispronunciation of many names, a very good golf book for players over 40 who will appreciate the perspectives.

Great Mental Game book

I am both passionate about Golf and Mindfulness:

This book captures perfectly the essence of Positive Psychology, Mental Strength and Focus needed to prevail at This Amazing Game.

Every chapter reminded me of the essence of Golf and how to enjoy playing relaxed and with no worries.

Since retaking this amazing game a year ago, my average score was 100. I scored 85 after almost 20 years of not doing so.

My Mind and Body are now connected better than ever (like a child/teenager when I played competitive Golf) playing The Greatest Game in The World.

I really enjoyed every second of it and I would highly recommend it to every Golfer out there.
