A stunning musical biography of Stevie Nicks that paints a portrait of an artist, not a caricature of a superstar.

Reflective and expansive, Mirror in the Sky situates Stevie Nicks as one of the finest songwriters of the twentieth century.

This biography from distinguished music historian Simon Morrison examines Nicks as a singer and songwriter before and beyond her career with Fleetwood Mac, from the Arizona landscape of her childhood to the strobe-lit Night of 1000 Stevies celebrations.

The book uniquely:

- Analyzes Nicks's craft—the grain of her voice, the poetry of her lyrics, the melodic and harmonic syntax of her songs.

- Identifies the American folk and country influences on her musical imagination that place her within a distinctly American tradition of women songwriters.

- Draws from oral histories and surprising archival discoveries to connect Nicks's story to those of California's above- and underground music industries, innovations in recording technology, and gendered restrictions.

Lots of good info about the music, and the artist herself. I really liked it

Having read a lot about Stevie, this book’s approach was fun to listen to and then dive back into the music

This is, by far the best Stevie bio so far! So happy with how the author goes deep and treats his subject as an artists. (Kate Bush, Patti Smith, Diamanda Galas?! How long have I waited for someone to put Stevie Nicks into context with these giants?!)
I like how he traces back and forth in time to follow the threads of the songs, etc…
There are some rookie errors with facts, but not too many.
The performance is stilted, and takes a little getting used to. And some care should have been taken with word pronunciation, If lyrics, or even names, words should be pronounced as Stevie said them (ie. Illume).

Best Stevie Nicks bio so far.

Unless you are a musician much of this goes over your head. It's interesting enough but not for me.

I have also red gold dust woman. This book seems to go a little deeper into the meanings behind her songs, and what was going on in her life that time. I really enjoyed the amount of respect that the writer had for Stevies incredible talent.

Very good
