The mothers on Manhattan's chic Upper East Side are highly educated, extremely wealthy, and very competitive. Hannah Allen has recently moved to the neighborhood with her New York City - bred investment banker husband and their two-year-old daughter, Violet. She's immediately inundated by an outpouring of advice from her not-so-well-intentioned new friends and her overbearing, socially conscious mother-in-law, who coach her on matters ranging from where to buy the must-have $300 baby dress to how to get into the only pre-pre-preschool that counts. Despite her better instincts and common sense, Hannah soon finds herself caught up in the competitive whirl of high-stakes mothering.

Good story, but narrator mispronounced a lot of names and words. Distracting.

The story was cute, but it was so annoying that the narrator couldn’t be bothered to learn how to correctly pronounce some pretty basic names, places, and words. (eg: “Mozart,” “MoMA,” and “Cum Laude”...Seriously!? Come ON!!)

—If you’re going to insist on putting on airs and keep calling it the “ReserVWAH,” as if you’re reading in French, then for heaven’s sake, don’t then mispronounce “couture,” “Vuitton,” and “Hermès” in practically the same breath. It’s jarring, and ruins the credibility of the book. So bad!!!!

Also thought narrator’s voice for Bee was totally wrong. But whatever, that’s less of an issue than learning how to pronounce the words you’re reading correctly.

I wish Jill had narrated it

I love listening to Jill Kargman reading her own work! This narrator doesn't capture Kargman's manner, so the jokes fall flat. I found myself over it by the second chapter. I think I would have stuck with it had Jill been reading it instead.

Annoying all around

Don't waste your time or money with this book. Read Jill Kargman's other book, if you like her that is, where she narrates it called sprinkle glitter on my grave. I watch odd mom out so I am a fan of her, but this book really just miss the mark. The narrator was a little on the irritating side also and I finally had to just give up about halfway through the book because I couldn't handle it anymore.
