Paula Lillard, director of a Montessori school ranging in age from 18 months to 15 years, provides a clear and cogent introduction to the Montessori program for the elementary and later years.

In detailed accounts, Lillard shows how children acquire the skills to answer their own questions, learn to manage freedom with responsibility, and maintain a high level of intellectual stimulation by using the Montessori method.

This is an essential handbook for parents and teachers who have chosen the Montessori alternative for the older child.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly because it combined an overview of the history, theory, practical application and future development of Montessori education. As a parent of Montessori children it gave me a clear understanding of the purpose and system that Montessori designed and which has taken hold today in the U.S.

Where is the transition through adolescents to careers beyond education? In a world with a growing wealth gap for about 2,000 years, what opportunities are there for montessorians to avoid being left behind? Our world can be a lot stronger with millions of montessorians feeding “gofundme “ equivalent campaigns than the media focused on the Google and amazon founders or Hollywood stars. How do we get there?
