Jack London—author of The Call of the Wild, White Fang, and Sea Wolf—was among the most highly regarded and most successful writers of the early 20th century. This is a collection of eight of his best short stories:

“Moon-Face”

“The Leopard Man’s Story”

“Local Color”

“Amateur Night”

“The Minions of Midas”

“The Shadow and the Flash”

“All Gold Canyon”

“Planchette”

I didn't want to like this collection of Jack London's short stories at first because they were unlike his novels about wolves in the Klondike. I found the title story, "Moon Face," to be appalling because of its murderous hatred of the obese. In fits and starts, the collection grew on me. I found myself smiling, although I did not want to. I couldn't help it. The clever stories show London's mastery of the form and his abundant imagination. The collection improved as I listened. The standouts include "The Shadow and the Flash," "All Gold Canyon," and "Planchette." London has so much going on in these stories that I will listen to them again to ensure I did not miss anything. I highly recommend this book.
