There's a new kid on the ranch. Hank the Cowdog could have told Slim that bringing an orphaned raccoon back to the ranch was not the best idea. But since Slim never pays any attention to Hank, Loper, and Sally May soon find themselves housing an adolescent coon with a mischievous streak a mile wide.

As the head of ranch security, Hank's got to keep an eye on Eddy the Rac. So when Eddy starts claiming "Moonlight Madness" - a crazed restlessness brought on by the light of the moon - it's up to Hank to find a way to keep him from getting into trouble. The only problem is, whenever Hank tries to stop Eddy, he's the one who ends up in hot water!

New songs are "Cowboys Transfusion" and "Free the Cookies".

We listened to a lot of the books in this series on road trips with our kids, but they are just as fun to listen to now as before. The entire book is a narrative of some adventure by Hank, the Cowdog, who considers himself "Head of Ranch Security," and the perspective is always a dog's perspective. The only problem with listening to this book with headphones is that it is extremely difficult to keep from laughing aloud, and certainly impossible to keep a straight face. Be prepared for some stares from those who wonder if you are "safe." Hank is often confused by humans and often misinterprets their actions, though he does understand the words that they speak. Hank is not the brightest and, like anyone speaking a second language, often confuses similar words in hilarious ways. Reading the books are fun. Listening is even more so with the Texas drawl that is accentuated by the fact that is coming from a dog who isn't always sure what is going on, but is always trying to cover for himself to look good and worthy of the position he has given himself to protect the ranch. But, if you want to really enjoy the book, listen to it with a child. It will make road trips much shorter and the "are we there yet" will be replaced with, "No, we can't stop now!" This is one of many books in the series, and I am sure that you will enjoy them all.

Don't listen in a public space; people will stare!
