“Murder, blackmail, and betrayal, all set against the glittering backdrop of Washington society.”
The Today Show

No one knows the world of high society better that New York Times bestselling author Jane Stanton Hitchcock—and no one captures its behind-the-scenes scandals and secrets better. In Mortal Friends, the Edgar® Award-nominated author of Trick of the Eye and Social Crimes offers readers a comedy of manners and murders which Barbara Goldsmith describes as a “dizzying dash through the heights of Washington society, a high velocity novel with more twists than a corkscrew.” Dominick Dunne said, “I had a great weekend with this book.” Find out how the other half live—and die—by spending some quality time with Mortal Friends.

I've listened to all of JSH's books, but one. (The Witches... is too dark for me). My favorite book is Bluff. I enjoyed the poker references, I'd enjoy another book with that protagonist. I really like the relatableness and/or intelligence/gutsyness of her women. I like seeing a woman who has a life that doesn't depend on a man, but who does want a healthy relationship. I like seeing a woman who works her way past settling for a commitment-phobic man. I like that all this happens without the protagonist having children. I like that there is a backdrop of money.

I have now read three of this authors books and while this was far from my favorite, it did keep you guessing the entire time. However, unlike her other two books I have read, I could not form a bond with these characters. The lead character, Reven, is beyond shallow, self absorbed and naive. It drove me crazy! The other characters just weren’t formed well. Still a good read though.

Kept me guessing

It’s difficult for me to get work done when listening to Jane Stanton Hitchcock’s mysteries. I’m thoroughly addicted!

Fast paced, And while this is is a standalone, it is well worth your time to read her in reading order. The narrator is especially talented.

I DARE YOU TO FIGURE IT OUT BEFORE THE REVEAL!!!
