It was Mother's Day and Robert Allman tried to prepare for the occasion. Tradition held that when worshippers attended church on Mother's Day, those whose mothers were alive wore red roses. Those whose mothers were passed, like Robert's, would wear a white rose. However, after he could only find a red rose to wear, he never dreamed, not in a million years, what was in store for him.

When Robert Allman couldn't find a white rose for Mother's Day to symbolize his beloved mother's death, he choose a red rose instead. With that choice he's given an opportunity to revisit his past.

This was a sweet short story that I found really thought provoking. If you had one last moment with someone, what would you say? What would you take from that encounter? With just a few words, we get a strong sense of Robert's life and his relationship with his family. I loved that it was open to interpretation, and I'd love to read more from this author.

A family goes to church by mother’s day but they stop in their way to buy a rose for each one. A red rose means their mother is still alive, while a white one means she has passed away. A red rose instead a white one brings a wonderful surprise.

This is a beautiful tale about love and homesickness. The characters are not fully developed but the way they are pictured works well for the story. I think a longer and more elaborate book would have better served the plot, since like it is right now it seems just a draft.

Eva R. Marienchild delivered a very good narration, expressing the right amount of emotion at every time and with a different voice for each character. It helped to bring the characters to life and improve the story.

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful story but not the best format

Here is a nice short story for Mother's Day. I didn't almost cry like I did for his short story Trapping Rabbits, but this is still a quick enjoyable listen with an excellent narrator.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
