Contemporary Romance

Aelissm Davis figured she would eventually return home to Northstar, Montana, but not like this - desperate for the tranquility of the secluded valley and plagued by memories of her dead boyfriend and the advances of an obsessive former friend. Just when she begins to relax, a call from her old friend makes it clear he wasn't deterred, and she calls her overprotective uncle for advice. Things become even more tangled when he sends Patrick O'Neil "on vacation" to keep an eye on her. Aelissm is pretty sure her uncle is playing matchmaker again, but despite her annoyance, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Pat. He is a haunted man with a kind smile and sad eyes, and he may just be the best thing to ever happen to her…if she can convince him to stay.

I can not give a good rating on the story because the narrator was so bad that I kept getting bored and distracted.

Terrible performance

A man and a woman have separate violent tragedy wreck their lives. They are each withdrawn and stuck in the aftermath. When the woman is threatened her law enforcement uncle sends a young struggling detective friend to help protect his hurting endangered niece. The hero and heroine meet and develop a friendship that leads to more. All the while they give each other the courage to face their own demons. I think it is necessary to comment on narrator's lackluster performance. Her voice is low energy and flat. She just reads the story and does not vary her voice with different characters so she does not add to enjoyment of book.

If you like wounded heroes on a path to healing, you'll enjoy this clean, but sensuous, romance. It isn't a Christian novel but Pat and Aelissm might inspire others to get out of the victim trap and heal. I think the narrator hurt this book. I'll give Suzie O'Connell another try but not with this Reader. She does have a nice voice quality but her timing and lack of different voices hurt the book. The hero often sounded more than slow witted.
