Mrs Hudson Goes to Ireland

Sherlock Holmes has been missing and is presumed dead for some time, and his grief-stricken landlady, Mrs. Hudson, is anxious for a distraction. However, she is in for a culture shock when she travels to Ireland with her friend, Kitty Melrose, to try and stop a forced marriage.

What she finds is a countryside steeped in superstition and beliefs in the old ways, a place of fairy forts and holy wells, and of changelings and banshees. A place, moreover, where an impoverished peasantry remains under the heel of oppressive English landlords, but not for much longer.

Times, at last, are changing. A brutal murder followed by the arrest of someone Mrs. Hudson is determined to prove innocent leads her into mortal danger. At the same time, she is amused to find herself courted by an elderly widower with a roving eye…

Wonderful story!

Mrs. Hudson accompanies her friend and neighbor Kitty Melrose to Ireland to stop her goddaughter Lily from being forced into a unwanted marriage. Unfortunately they cannot rescue the young girl, but stay on to investigate a heinous crime. The story is very well written with strong characters and well described setting. The mystery is engaging and it appears Mrs. Hudson did learn a lot from her former lodger Mr. H. The narration is excellent and brings the story to life. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review.

Logic

With the death of Sherlock Homes ; Mrs. Hudson seeks a family wedding will reduce her grief. Finding the wedding location is bit away with the Fairies and other worldly beliefs, but her time with Homes, has change her approach to these events.
