A simple request opens up a savory mystery.

Hannah never imagined her high-school service project with the elderly would draw her into another mystery. Mrs. Tedesco, a lonely widow who loves to bake, has just one request - that the teen retrieve her cookbook from her old house. Easier said than done. The house has been ransacked and the coveted cookbook is nowhere to be found.

Eager to help the woman, Hannah and her sister, Tamar, are driven to locate the cookbook and uncover its secrets. But the teens aren’t the only ones seeking the cookbook’s hidden treasures, and the other side is playing for keeps.

This was no simple mystery, and I enjoyed following along. The sister were observant, smart, and curious which helped piece things together. Their dad seemed a bit overbearing for my tastes. A second chance for Leonard was very generous, and I hope he used it wisely. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

Genre: YA mystery (low end, would even say MG)

Summary:

A high school project to do good deeds for the residents of an old folks’ home leads Hannah and Tamar into another mystery.

Additional Comments:

· Characters aren’t well developed, but they’re in that brand of inherently good and wholesome mystery solvers like classic Nancy Drew. (Pretty sure it’s designed that way.)

· The girls’ involvement in the mystery is a bit of a stretch.

· The story goes through a few twists, so that’s nice.

· Kind of wish there was an actual sense of danger. Waiting for somebody to get kidnapped here. Guess it’s not that kind of series. Pity, would make it a bit more zippy. As is, it’s okay. Closer to the rebook Nancy Drew where she was running around solving who stepped on the garden green squash.

Conclusion:

If you like 100% safe and tame mysteries for your young readers, this is a great series to try.

I really enjoyed this light mystery. It was cute. There were several mysteries wrapped up into the main mystery and the characters were well developed and likeable. I listened while cleaning and it made an activity that isn't much fun much better. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a cute, enjoyable, light mystery!

This was the second book in the "Hannah and Tamar Mystery" series, and I liked it more than the first one. I thought that this mystery was more woven throughout the tale, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters better. This story had action-packed scenes and more seemed to be happening as the tale unfolded. I recommend this book to others who enjoy this genre. Julie McCarthy's narration was great, and her voice was pleasant. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
