NARRATED BY JACK LOWDEN

'A quirky and original debut that sizzles with scintillating prose.' BERNARDINE EVARISTO
'Michael Pedersen is a rare writer of real passion and power and this debut is phenomenal.' MATT HAIG

Life on a remote island is turned upside down by a stranger's arrival, testing bonds of family and tradition and leaving a young dreamer's future hanging in the balance.

It's no ordinary existence on the rugged isle of Muckle Flugga. The elements run riot and the very rocks that shape the place begin to shift under their influence. The only human inhabitants are the lighthouse keeper, known as The Father, and his otherworldly son, Ouse. Them, and the occasional lodger to keep the wolf from the door.

When one of those lodgers - Firth, a chaotic writer - arrives from Edinburgh, the limits of the world the keeper and his son cling to begin to crumble. A tug of war ensues between Firth and the lighthouse keeper for Ouse's affections - and his future. As old and new ways collide, and life-changing decisions loom, what will the tides leave standing in their wake?

Jack Lowden can read anything and I would listen to it. A very lovely story full of lessons and heart touching moments. Sometimes a bit too flowery for me, but overall absolutely beautiful

Lovely reading

Tbh, I downloaded this because I saw Jack Lowden’s IG post . I’d listen to him read the dictionary :) but I absolutely loved the story and the complexity of the characters and their development. Everything about this novel and narration was beyond my expectations! Jack did a SUPERB job of narrating the characters and capturing their personalities in the nuance of his voices for them. Wonderful all around!

Wow! Just wow!

I highly recommend the audiobook read and performed by Jack Lowden. Pedersen's wonderful language is brought to life by Lowden, and the way he performs as Robert Louis Stephenson shouldn't be missed. Not to mention, it is worth it to hear him say the name, "Ouse".

Great Narration and Performance by Jack Lowden

This charming and whimsical novel is a beautiful work of prose. The setting comes alive and you feel utterly transported to far north reaches of the Scottish isles. Jack Lowden’s narration is spectacular! He captures all the various dialects and tones in such a pitch perfect manner! Highly recommended!
