Washed up pitching prospect, Rock Cobbler, now a hotshot detective with the Santa Lacrimosa PD likes working alone as much as he likes bourbon. That is to say, a lot.

One rainy night at Santa Lacrimosa Clown College he finds himself looking out a dorm room window. Down below lay the hilariously twisted body of Mr. Rubadubdub, apparently tossed from that very same window. The investigation into the defenestration of the promising young clown will lead Rock through dive bars, contemporary Christian clowning performances, and down into the seedy underbelly of clown lore. He will discover what no non-clown should know; like the existence of dangerous, rival clown factions that will stop at nothing in search of clown dominance and the possession of one particular venerated clown relic.

To crack the case, he will have to match wits, and game, with the alluring Professor Wiggles. Will Rock take a pie to the face? Or will he solve the case before more clowns die?

Murder in Greasepaint is equal parts Chandler, Christopher Moore, Bozo, and Bourbon.

I received a free copy of this story and it was pretty good. I'm not the biggest clown fan, but this story has enough mystery and intrigue that the story kept me interested. Great narrator and has a great story. Well worth the credit.

Great story, great characters, well written, well performed. I don’t know much about clowns, but the history, lore, education, and antics ring true. The humor and the mystery compliment each other nicely.

Seriously Clowny

Whiskey Leavins weaves an intriguing mystery in the Rock Cobbler case to solve clown murders. Clowning certainly works the humorous side of the listener, but the threads of mystery and suspense are superb from start to finish.

The character of Rock Cobbler is detailed enough that he feels like the guy you want to hug. The personality is defined, one layer at a time, with honest statements about how this winning detective arrived at this point in life. He admits nothing, denies everything, and masterfully creates counter-accusations.

Combining clown lore, reality, history, and education is masterfully combined in this crime fiction. The community and Clown University descriptions are humorous and keep this listener wanting more. Learning about clown history made this tale fascinating. The clown characters were unique and delightfully identifiable. The adult content delivered wit, humor, and outrageous imagery even amid murder, mayhem, and deceit.

Duffy P. Weber’s voice acting was flawless to the point of perfection. The delightfully unique character voices got delivered with no issues or inconsistencies to interrupt the immersive delivery. As a listener, I would follow this narrator to any story in the thriller genre. The combination of Leavins and Weber rates five stars (though that isn’t enough)—well done.
