Ann Cleeves Classic Crime - engaging mysteries to savour, beloved characters to meet again

Murder in Paradise is the third mystery novel featuring George and Molly Palmer-Jones by Ann Cleeves, author of the Shetland and Vera Stanhope crime series.

Cheerful festivities take a dark turn when the groom’s sister slips and tumbles to the perilous rocks below . . .

Newlyweds Jim and Sarah were welcomed home from their honeymoon to the Scottish island of Kinness with a huge celebration, and the whole island was present to witness the bitter end. But did Jim’s younger sister Mary fall? Or was she pushed? George Palmer-Jones, retired birdwatcher and amateur detective, suspected the latter, but proving it would be difficult – no one wanted to upset the balance of the island’s ancient relationships.

There were definitely secrets being hidden, and George, helped by Sarah, began to piece together a tragic story he wished he had never heard. Kinness was a paradise lost.

Critic reviews

The best detective novel I've read this year
A fine writer
Ann Cleeves is a skilful technician, keeping our interest alive and building slowly up to the denouement. Her easy use of language and clever story construction make her one of the best natural writers of detective fiction
Nobody does unsettling undercurrents better than Ann Cleeves (Val McDermid)
Ann Cleeves has an enviable talent . . . I love these books

Enjoyed the mix of outsiders and incomers on remote Scottish island. As much as I like birds, it was good to have a different focus.

Great story-a little slow at the beginning. Almost gave up. Returned to it on a long drive-characters grew on me and I wanted to know what happened. Finished the story as I did yard work the following day-engrossing enough to keep me moving through hauling piles of wet frozen leaves!

Great Story
