My Christmas Attic is the story of a young boy who is struggling with the challenges of dyslexia during the Korean War era, at a time when dyslexia was little understood.
Jake Jennings, the young narrator of the story, builds a fantasy world in his attic to escape from the many challenges in his life, including the apparent loss of his father who is “missing in action” in the Korean War. Jake’s mother is also emotionally crippled by the loss of her husband.
In the attic, Jake builds a “Forever Christmas” world to escape from the many emotional traumas in his life, especially his inability to “read like the other children” in his school.
