His face was red, his mouth a sneer. I don't remember specifically what the fight was about, but I do remember one thing he said. Angry, grounded, and lashing out, my son reached deep into his bag of insults and produced: “You're a witch, Mom!”

A look of triumph twinkled in his eye. What a sick burn.

I was supposed to be hurt, I'm sure.

Instead, I laughed. “You're going to have to try harder than that.”

As he seethed, I tried not to smile. “A witch is a wise woman. She's crafty and learned. She's seen a lot of things, and not much scares her. Yes, son. Your mom is definitely a witch.”

I never thought I'd say that. Ever.

Took a couple of days to listen to all the chapters because life happens. The pause or stop button on Audible is like a bookmark, "I'll come back soon"

I am going to go back and listen to my favorite chapters. This Warlock liked so much of what was hypnotically narrated even though it was clearly aimed at women and, more importantly, the witches. That's OK, that's been my entire life: "Good morning, ladies! And Tom!"

Wonderfully told and, again, narrated with useful, often funny, peppered with poignancy tales from the middle of nowhere with seemingly little contact with the outside world making it very clear who and what is important in life.

You don't have to be a witch, or a warlock, to enjoy "My Life as a Kitchen Wish" by Red Tash.

Not just for witches

I hoped for more in this book. I believe I just wanted more, like more recipes, more understanding of why it is kitchen Witchery. It was very entertaining and I really enjoy the way she writes, relatable. I just wanted more!

Not as I wished!

This was not what I expected when I originally downloaded the title. Being first, unfamiliar with Red Tash's other works, and second, a fan of a few series featuring kitchen witches as the protagonists, I thought this was going to be another fictional story about a kitchen witch. So for anyone expecting that, this is NOT a supernatural, fictional story.

However, it was a delightful listen. Red shares recipes for everything from tasty chicken dishes to fabric softener. She makes the idea of brewing your own household products sound fun and easy, rather than being a daunting task that only a "perfect" lady of the house could accomplish. She also shares some other helpful ideas for making life around the house a little simpler, a few of which I plan on implementing myself now that I know they're even an option! Scattered among all these helpful tips and tricks are funny stories of her family life and endearing descriptions of her home, all of which make me want to come spend the day snuggled in front of her wood burning stove, sampling some of her homemade concoctions!

Red also provides a website where you can access lists and links to all of the items or ingredients she mentions in her book, which is very helpful for someone like me who listened to this while commuting or getting other things done around the house and was unable to make notes.

If you are an established fan of Red Tash, this will give you a fun peek into the life behind her stories. And if you are a new fan of hers like I am (I will certainly be looking up some of her fictional works in the near future) this is a great listen with helpful ideas. If you're looking for ways to simplify life just a little bit to make time for things more fun than vacuuming and doing laundry, without completely outsourcing all of your household responsibilities, this is the book for you!

The “Summary” is NOT a summary at all, it’s the first paragraph of the book. This is homemaker notes and advice, not a story. I still liked it and will listen to it again- probably several more times. It just isn’t close to what’s advertised.

During the book I learned that the author does podcasts so I really want to know why someone else narrated this book. The narrator pronounces “et cetera (etc.)” like “ek-setruh” and “milk” like “mehlk,” and those are two of my pet peeves, but otherwise she has a cute accent and decent timbre. She started off a little choppy but either she or I got over it.

This is instructive, not a story
