The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. Lee Goldberg is a novelist and TV writer. His two careers merged when he began writing the Diagnosis Murder series of original novels, based on the CBS TV mystery that he wrote and produced. Goldberg also writes novels based on the Monk television series.

Jan Burke, a nationally best-selling author, has written 12 novels, including the Edgar Award-winning Bones, and her most recent The Messenger. Burke is the founder of the Crime Lab Project (www.crimelabproject.com) and a member of the board of California Forensic Science Institute.

Stephen J. Cannell is the best-selling author of numerous novels, the most recent of which is On the Grind. He is one of TV's most prolific writers, having created or co-created more than 40 shows. Cannell has received multiple awards including the Marlow Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mystery Writers of America.

Robert Dugoni is the New York Times best-selling author of The Jury Master and Damage Control, He practiced law in San Francisco for 13 years before becoming a full-time writer. His most recent novel is Wrongful Death.

Craig Johnson is the author of four previous Walt Longmire mysteries. He has a background in education and law enforcement and lives in Ucross, Wyoming, population 25. Johnson's new book is The Dark Horse.
