Discover the world's greatest myths and legends - from Greek mythology to Norse mythology - in this comprehensive guide.

What did Japanese mythology say about the beginning of the Universe? How did Oedipus become the classic tragic hero in Greek mythology? Who brought about the origin of death in Maori mythology? With vivid retellings of famous legends, Myths and Legends makes it easier than ever before to understand the stories that are central to every culture.

Delve into the well-known tales of the ancient Greeks, which hold the key to such phrases as "Achilles' heel", as well as the lesser-known but richly colourful myths of Africa and the Americas. Explore global ideas such as fate and fortune, and the Underworld, and find out about the key characters - heroes, tricksters, and gods - that make up each myth system. Filled with the cultural and religious meanings behind each legend, and the influence they have had both in their own time and in today's world, this audiobook is a must-have for all mythology enthusiasts.

This book covers a lot of pantheon and myths naming all of the primary God's, Goddesses, heroes, heroines, etc. BUT it is more of a list read out rather than a more detailed discussion of the varying origins, similarities and history of the people who worshiped these deities.

Continuous list of deities but no real story.

I like mythology and this book talks about mythology. But it's akin to reading a shopping list aloud. It's essentially a research book that Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer would have. There is no story, narrative or anything to hold your attention. Put it on in the background and forget it's playing.

It's just meh

This is a reference book. It should not have been considered for an audio book. I suggest you buy a physical copy if you would like brief references for many different myths and legends. Though the organization is pretty bad maybe consider something else.

Listening to this audiobook is like sitting by a crackling fire with a charming storyteller, weaving tales that whisk you away into another world. The narrator's voice makes you feel as though you are huddled around a cozy fireplace, hanging onto every word with anticipation. The way the story unfolds feels personal, like you're sharing secrets with an old friend over drinks. It's not just a book being read to you; it's an experience that envelops you in warmth and nostalgia. So grab your favorite blanket, pour yourself a cup of tea, and let yourself be transported by this fireside chat of an audiobook. You won't regret it.

Someone has taken a textbook or one of those encyclopedic books and just read it out loud.

I realize conceptually this is what all audiobooks are, but there’s no connection between much of the text. It will be a sentence or two about one deity and then a paragraph or two about the next hero or story. It just doesn’t make for a good audiobook as it does not flow well.
