So far out of my genre. But it was a perfect short story before I move on to my next historical fiction read.

excellent palate cleanser

This novella was a great quick read! Actually, in my case it was a listening experience because I decided to go with the Audible download. I liked that I was able to complete the book in one afternoon. It was a total immersion experience - no interruptions, just like going to a movie.

You easily get pulled into the story and begin to travel with the characters through their lives and trials. The author paints a good detailed background and then the action unfolds pretty quickly. i enjoyed the fact that the reader, Ashley, did a great job portraying the various characters to help me visualize the action. No strained voices or bad accents.

Previous reviewers mentioned the twist at the end and I admit I did not see it coming! It got me thinking for sure! It was a totally new idea for me. Interesting.

I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because I believe this author will definitely improve. Afterrall, it's only his first book. I want to see where he goes with this idea. I'm saving that last star for a gripping sequel.

Quick & Gripping - with a twist

James wood keeps you guessing in this great novella in which he delivers a great twist at the end that you will not see coming. There are twist, and there are twist, and then there is this twist!

Ashley is a great reader. She easily brings the characters to life and has a great ability to add the appropriate giggles, laughs, and other verbal queues while reading the story. For example, if the text says “giggling Sarah says...”, Ashley’s voice sounds perfect as she giggles while delivering Sarah’s line. Actually It doesn’t sound like she is reading you the story. It is more like she is just telling you the story.

Keeps you guessing! Excellent reader!
