Li Jing Zmin has always felt out of step with the world. She notices patterns others ignore and questions things people accept without hesitation. Long before the Jelvias arrived, she learned that fitting in often meant pretending not to see too much.

When alien spacecraft landed and humanity calmly accepted that the Jelvias had always been part of life on Earth, Li Jing recognised the same wrongness she had felt all her life. Memories didn’t line up. History felt too neat. Reality had been smoothed into something false.

She forms the Wake Up Movement to alert humanity to what she believes is an alien threat. At worst, the movement is dismissed as fringe, its warnings easy to ignore. At best, Li Jing is labelled a rebel.

Then she finds a Jelvia hidden in her garage, unconscious and dangerous.

If she wakes him, he may remember what he truly is. He may prove that she was right all along. But as his memories return, Li Jing begins to understand the cost of truth.

She wanted the world to wake up.
She never considered what might wake with it.
