In one of the most acclaimed novels of recent years, Kazuo Ishiguro imagines the lives of a group of students growing up in a darkly skewed version of contemporary England.

Narrated by Kathy, now 31, Never Let Me Go dramatizes her attempts to come to terms with her childhood at the seemingly idyllic Hailsham School and with the fate that has always awaited her and her closest friends in the wider world. A story of love, friendship, and memory, Never Let Me Go is charged throughout with a sense of the fragility of life.

Storyline was fairly boring and minimally engaging, that left me with questions u answered. part of the plot that was interesting was not explored or explained.

I like how his books develop and get better as they go on. It was a bit of a slow start but once I finished it I understand it was necessary. I can't wait to read another of his books!

A slow burn but engaging and thoughtful

It’s been a few hours since I finished the book and honestly can’t stop sobbing. So beautifully written that before even understanding the plot fully I started feeling this deep sorrow inside. Maybe because I’ve worked with refugees and seen people trapped in systems and circumstances that are out of their control this book has brought out emotions I’ve hidden deep inside.

Ishiguro's writing is fascinating. His stories explore possible impacts of society's hunger for prolonging life from the very human perspective of the outsiders, made by humans for their own means. Worth a listen and very well read.

A humane look at the potential inhumanity of technological advancement

Unfortunately I’d read the first line of a review that mentioned this book was science fiction and thus spent the whole book waiting for some big, game-changing reveal. This is not that kind of book. Narrator’s upper-class voice grated too at times, although that was perhaps deliberate…

A tame and, at times, tiring listen
