A swoony second-chance romance where facing the one who broke your heart could be the thing that makes your dream come true.

Twenty-five-year-old Paige Lancaster is one contract away from earning a living doing her favorite thing in the world: writing songs. But when a music industry professional suggests she might be holding back with her lyrics to lessen the heartbreak of an old flame, Paige doubts if her music is ready to be heard.

In a rare, impulsive move, Paige reaches out to Liam Bishop after four years of no-contact to ask him for a small favor: date her, and then re-break her heart, all so she can remember what those big, song-worthy emotions felt like. And since Liam is the one who first set Paige on this career path, he hesitantly agrees.

Across two months of Liam’s summer work travel, the exes are forced to share hotel beds, rehash the past, and date in the present, all while navigating the building attraction between them they both swore was the one line of their agreement they wouldn’t cross.

But when it becomes near impossible not to act on their rippling chemistry, and as ever intensifying feelings blur reality with what’s driven by the music, Paige and Liam will both have to decide which is more important: art for the sake of it, or love over everything.

"Never Over combines three of my favorite things: music, men whose middle name is Yearn, and Clare Gilmore's gorgeous writing. I found myself reading slowly because, selfishly, I never wanted to get kicked out of Paige and Liam's world. This book is tender, intimate, and ridiculously engrossing, and with it, Clare shows why she's one of the most impressive voices in the romance genre."—Jessica Joyce, USA Today bestselling author of The Ex Vows

Never Over is a thoughtful, emotionally driven read that centers on self-discovery, self-worth, and the messy process of figuring out who you are when life doesn’t follow a straight path. The story explores family issues, complex friendships, love, and career paths in a way that feels relatable, especially for anyone navigating identity and imposter syndrome.

At times, the main characters, Paige and Liam, wrestle with feeling like they’re not enough or not where they’re “supposed” to be, which adds a strong layer of motivation throughout the book. While some moments leaned a little over dramatic for my taste, the emotional weight still felt earned, and the themes were handled with care.

Overall, the ending was solid and satisfying, tying together the personal growth and emotional arcs in a meaningful way. This is a reflective, heart-centered story that will resonate if you enjoy character-driven novels about growth, relationships, and finding your place in the world.

I loved this. A lot of romance books have conflict that could be cleared up with a conversation. The conflict in this actually made sense.

This is by far my favorite Clare Gilmore romance. I loved the combintion of music and baseball, and of course, the second chance. Calling an ex for inspiration NEVER seems like a good idea... except in this case. Paige and Liam clearly just NEED to be together, and I love how their lives just fit together like puzzle pieces. Sometimes it's really just about timing and having someone who knows you down to your core to move forward in the right direction.

Baseball romance is always a YES

2nd Chance romance. Characters were well rounded and showed growth. The depth of the southern accent was at times distracting in the audiobook.

Well developed romance
