This is the first biography in English of Nikolai Ivanovich Kibalchich, who was hanged as the explosives technician of the "People's Will" party of terrorists who assassinated Russian Tsar Alexander II with a thrown grenade on March 1, 1881. While in prison awaiting execution, Kibalchich conceived and drew the design of the first rocket-powered human-piloted flying device, thus qualifying him in history as a "terrorist rocket pioneer".

Takes a topic that should be bone dry and makes it intriguing, with an excellent performance by Mr. Olson.

I really enjoyed this book. To me it is sad when people use their energy and creativity to find ways to take the lives of others. Nikolai was gifted in his research dealing with explosives. The end result was an assassination of his country’s leader and the subsequent execution of Nikolai and his associates.

The narrator, Robert Olsen, has a superb voice and his enunciation and grasp of the Russian language make listening delightful.

Fascinating book regarding a pivotal period of time in Russia
