A healer in hiding. A soldier fulfilling his duty. A seer in need of an heir.

Nirel hides her healing magic from everyone except her family. If anyone discovers her secret, she'll be forced to serve as the king's healer—an honor most healers do not survive. When soldiers invade her village and fatally wound her brother, she must decide between keeping her secret or saving him. The soldier leading the invasion remembers her but can't recall how. Having witnessed her power, he must bring her to the king or forfeit his life. Once she reaches the capital, the seer sets his plans in motion to secure his future and her hand.

Nirel is a high fantasy adventure fraught with political intrigue, complex magic, romance, and time travel.

Loved this story when I first read it and had to get the audiobook. Perfectly casted narrators, especially Corvin, his voice still gets me! I can't wait for book 2!

This book kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. Sara Emmer did a fabulous job of building the worlds and magic systems, as well as weaving mystery throughout the book. I listened to the audiobook, and Grace Noble and Beau Thomas did an excellent job with the dual narration. This book is the first of The Timekeepers of Laeviin series.

Nirel is a healer that has been hidden in her village, but when troops from the capital invade her village and her brother is hurt, she has choice to make. Does she allow her brother to die, or heal him? Healing him comes with a price. The troops capture her, led by Jace, the lieutenant of this unit, and they begin the journey back to the capital. There, the king, and the seer wait for her. Corvin, the seer, has plans that he sets into motion. Nirel is confused by feelings she has for two men that she cannot explain. Nirel’s heart for others continually touched me, as well as her determination.

This book holds fantasy, time travel, mystery, and betrayal. I truly did not know what was going to happen next, and felt heartbreak, anger, fear, and hope. There is vi0lence, bl00d, t0rture, threats of SA, and on page s*xual interactions (about a 2 on the spice level). So, as always, be sure to read the content warnings for you own mental health. I also loved the LGBTQIA+ representation in the book, as well as the struggles with past religious beliefs and purity culture.

I’m going to be sitting here a moment still in shock, and thankful the other books are already out!!

Magic, fantasy, and time travel all to keep you guessing

I am completely speechless.
Standing ovation.
I laughed, I cried, I screamed, and now I’m just sitting here staring off into the sunset while my brain tries to catch up.

The narrators are incredible. I love the three point of view characters and their portrayal. The story gripped me and I had to hear what happened next.

I couldn't stop listening.
I can't wait for the next book.

The story was tightly knit and yet tremendous at the same time. Nirel was beautifully created in that the FMC’s complexity was wrought in the relationships she formed with the two main MMCs. The narrators did a wonderful job of bringing the world and these dynamic characters to life. The author’s ability to build nuance into situations that appeared cut and dry was masterful. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this book and the reading!

One of my top reads of the year!
