Delete everything you think you know about tech pioneer John McAfee, whose antivirus software operates on millions of computers around the world.

Drawn from hours of conversations between Mark Eglinton and John McAfee in 2019, No Domain: The John McAfee Tapes provides startling insight into the extraordinary life of one of America's genuine renegades. McAfee shares his life story, providing revelatory details on the abusive father who shot himself when John was a young boy; the life-changing LSD overdose in St Louis, during which he was nearly convinced by voices in his head to try to kill his first wife and daughter; the unexpected government clearance that led to him working on CIA dark programs; the affinity for mathematics and hallucinogens that informed the hedonistic nature of his software company in Silicon Valley; the attempt to find a quiet life in Belize only to become a pariah in the eyes of the local militia, from whom he’d later flee, having been framed for the murder of his neighbor; and the subsequent years on the run in the US, evading a cast of pursuers, including the Sinaloa Cartel, while burying bags of money and valuables in marked locations around the Southwest, before fleeing the country on his yacht.

John McAfee has lived a life that defies description. This larger-than-life biography documents it all.

I listened during a long trip and hurried back from bathroom breaks to finish! This was the right author to portray John's story. All of my questions were answered about his life, except for who WHACKD him!? Since finishing the book I have gone on to research his crypto token, $WHACKD, he left as his legacy. This man was (is) a genius. I plan on listening to it again. There were so many twists and turns.

Astounding true story of the untamed genius.

I continually ask myself what is the meaning of John’s story. Is it a warning, or is it an invitation? Or is it something more complicated? John embodied the essential American spirit: freedom. The irony, of course, is this is what ultimately led to his clash with the USG. But behind the facade of disinformation and playful characters he used to elude control was a deeply feeling man—one who knew what it was to love and to suffer. Despite the various accusations against John, of which I will never know the truth, still I know in my heart that he was good. I suspect John wouldn’t even agree with that ostensibly simplistic characterization, but I know it’s true. When I hear Hozier’s Francesca on the radio, I can’t help but think of John McAfee and smile.

The meaning behind the man

I was just about to give up on Audible and then I listened to this GEM. Of course, we know anything McAfee is going to be intriguing and exciting but to hear it read by someone with a great narrator voice is another. As for the book, the interviewer and John : Ace. It jumps around but that’s understandable since it’s quite literally written audio recordings of an out of the box McAfee. 10/10 It made me buy and read the book. Looking forward to hearing and reading it again.

OUTSTANDING Narrator - Finally!
