"Boredom is dangerous," writes Benjamin Samuel, Co-Editor of Electric Literature, in his introduction to this issue of Recommended Reading. "It can make us lazy, complacent, and if we suffer too much of it we're liable to become boring ourselves. For the whalers at sea in Anu Jindal's Not a Bad Bunch, boredom is far more insidious; according to the ship's surgeon, who narrates the story, it's an early symptom of an infectious and barbarous madness. The crew isn't looking for trouble - they're hunting for whales - but in such close quarters with few distractions, any transgression is cause for revenge."

Not about whaling or madness at sea as much as talking about sex, breasts and prostates. Very odd use of adjectives throughout. Story diverges every few sentences to give you random detail or explanations on something completely irrelevant.

i'm not even rating the actual story, the narration was so dry and boring i couldn't finish it. that said, i don't think the story would've been good either way, but solid narration could've helped

bad narration
