Lenora Bell
The third book in USA Today bestselling author Lenora Bell sexy School for Dukes series is a Dracula-Northanger Abbey mash-up, with a dash of James Bond’s Miss Moneypenny.
Ready.
Raised in the countryside by her overprotective uncle, Miss Mina Penny’s dream of a triumphant London season is finally here. She determined her perfect match long ago: Rafe Bentley, the wickedest rake of them all. There’s only one very large, very unyielding obstacle: Rafe’s brother Drew, the reclusive Duke of Thorndon.
Aim.
This was supposed to be simple. Duke goes to London. Duke selects suitable bride. Love match? Not a chance. But when Drew meets Mina, she complicates everything. How can a lady armed with such beauty and brains fall for his irresponsible degenerate of a brother? Drew vows to save her from heartbreak and ruin, no matter the cost.
Desire!
But Mina is no damsel in distress. She’s daring, intuitive, passionate…and halfway to melting Drew’s cold heart. And although Mina thought she knew exactly what she wanted, one breathtakingly seductive kiss from Drew changes everything. Now Mina must decide between long-held dreams and dangerous new desires. Could her true destiny lie in the arms of a duke?

But eventually the story grew on me, or rather the interaction between H/H.
If I saw the story as an outline I would say, yeah, ok. So maybe it was some of the execution that missed its mark.
The sexuality, particularly for the times, just was a no way. And it did not strike me as sexy that Mina creeping in the Duke’s bushes saw what she saw when she saw him standing at his window. Maybe if it was 1/10, but no. As is, it was icky. Getting stuck in the chair was funny.
But really there’s no way if she had grown up lonely in the country without even a friend, she could have acted like such a knowing siren who knew what and how to do it all with no embarrassment, ever, and earnest desire to get straight to sex. Even despite her proclaimed desire to not care about any of the social mores and to be wild and embrace excitement.
So, well, I listened to the end which for me is still a thumbs up. And I just can’t criticize authors too hard because of all the work they do.
The narrator must have been pretty good since I forgot about it. Not once was my attention disturbed by narration so good job Lenora Bell. Often there is something just a little irritating in many female, British accent narrators.
I really do love and prefer more variety between male and female voices, and characters in general, but I think that’s a gift of amazing, partly of vocal cords or something.
Not bad
