"All the problems I know about are family ones."

A frightened child approaches Roman informer Falco, pleading for help. Nobody believes Gaia's story that a relation wants to kill her--and neither does he. Beset by his own family troubles, by his new responsibilities as procurator of the sacred poultry, and by the continuing search for a new partner, Falco turns her away. Immediately he regrets it.

Gaia has been selected as the new Vestal Virgin, and when she disappears Falco is officially asked to investigate. Finding Gaia is then a race against time, ending in Falco's most terrifying exploit yet.

Would you try another book from Lindsey Davis and/or Gordon Griffin?

Yes

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Mostly, at times a bit overly complicated, I wanted to cut to the chase.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Gordon Griffin?

I so liked the narrator for book 9 - Falco describes himself as a street rat - he's clearly a fast boy from the Aventine - while Griffin is a good narrator, it's not at all Falco's voice - too plumy, too posh - the narrator for Book 9 got it all just right, for me.

Do you think One Virgin Too Many needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

don't think so - it was enough on that topic

The book is terrific, as they all are. Falco had several moments where you don’t know if he’ll make it, and would be in such suspense, except you know there is a coming episode. So, calm down! He’ll get out of it somehow! Aside from a great whodunit, lots of suspense, and the usual great characters, I learned a lot. I learned more than I ever new about the Vestals. I learned about Queen Berenice (and looked up more about her). And that’s one of the things I love about these books: through great fun you actually learn a lot about Ancient Rome and its history. It is clear that the author does loads of research. If only they taught me history this way in school! Gordon Griffin’s performance is excellent, as always.

It was good I knew there are further episodes!
