Set in Powai, Mumbai, One sin at a time is a romantic suspenseful saga that traces the story of swordplay between two couples. Vani and Subbu, a young tamil couple, traditional and straitlaced, have recently moved to big, bad Mumbai from Coimbatore. Reena and Ricky, their Punjabi neighbours are seemingly friendly and forward but their extrovert nature masks sinister motives. In a string of diabolical moves, Reena befriends Vani and introduces her to a series of sins, gradually closing a trap around the innocent and beautiful wife. Reena extracts a promise of a reward from her husband in exchange for delivering a chaste Vani to his bed. Subbu, busy with his work life, suspects his wife but Vani and Reena are a step ahead.
Vani soon realizes she is on a slippery slope. She becomes aware of Reena's plan to ensnare her into a trap of unspeakable sin. And yet, the sins to which she was introduced by Reena in their days of friendship begin to drag Vani deeper into adultery and worse. An acquaintance from the past returns to tempt Vani with a vision of riches and ambition, but the price she has to pay is to walk deeper into sin. As if this is not enough, Ricky senses Subbu's attraction towards Reena and makes him an offer that he thinks Subbu can't refuse. Vani swears revenge against Reena but her plan is risky and she must use her own husband as a pawn to go one up on the Punjabi couple.
Love and lust, greed and ambition, infidelity and chastity are caught in a tussle as the two couples finally face off over a weekend stay together at holiday cottage.
Will Vani escape Reena's trap? Can she succeed in her plan to turn the tables on Reena? Or will she end up dragging Subbu along with her in a descent into debauchery? Can Ricky entice Subbu to swap his integrity in exchange for ......well, a swap?
