Operation: Pirates vs Drones

Can a space pirate be a good guy? Captain Gore: The outerworld shipping lanes are slim picking lately for pirate Captain Gore. He takes an Operator assignment that puts his broken-down ship, The Black Pearl, and hid degenerate crew in the path of the Mechanurge drones and quite possibly a hideous death on their Harvester ship. Operator Throd: Despite being betrayed by Gore, Throd-an infamous Operator who is half cybernetics-sets up a scenario using the pirates to help him get his assignment completed with the goal of leveling up. But this assignment could mean a gruesome death for the lot of them if the pirates mess up his plans. Will Captain Gore realize his past mistakes and attempt to do right? Or will his mutinous crew be the cause of them all getting put through the shredder by the Mechanurge Awakened drones? If litRPG and Military Scifi are your genres, then come and join Gore and Throd as they both try to level up and earn more credits for their teams while fighting the religious zealots known as the Mechanurge while trying not to kill each other along the way. This is a 14K word novella set in the Gamer's Universe. Come on, space pirates! Who doesn't love a good space pirates story?

My first audio book listen that was read by virtual voice, not bad.

Choppy story, probably because it is a short book, no words to transition scenes or do much character development. I also am not that keen for "game" tokens inserts such as lines for bonus points for completing a task, etc.

Perhaps use this as a springboard to a full length novel explaining what an operator is and how pirate space ships can afford to exist. The antagonists (drones) remind me of the Borg from Star Trek.

I am not really sure that I understood the story. It didn't flow. It was confusing. The plot sounded interesting. The characters were interesting and fairly well developed.
