This commentary on the Lord's prayer has been compiled from a series of broadcasts made by Father Alexander Schmemann on Radio Liberty to listeners in the Soviet Union. Because this single short prayer of Christ has everything that needs to be said about God, his kingdom, this life, and all of us, it is not an exaggeration to suggest that in this commentary, Father Schmemann provides us with a map for seeing anew the purpose and measure of our whole life.

Father Schmemann awakens in us a fresh understanding of these familiar petitions. The SVS Press audiobook program is sponsored by The Orthodox Vision Foundation.

Content: yes yes yes 1000x yes. A short prayer with a fairly short exposition. But each paragraph is a gut punch and challenge.
Performance: I can argue could be better. But honestly the subtle approach makes you listen more. The lack of overacting has the touch of the quiet anger of a friend. Nothing is performance anchors harder for it.
Lord have mercy of Fr. Schemann. And bless his works.

First of all, this is a short listen - just over an hour which makes it very digestible. The narration is well done, which is helpful Father Schmemann breaks down the Lord's Prayer article by article with a simple, yet rich, explanation of each article, what it means in both a larger theological context, as well as a more personal context which the reader will surely recall upon reciting the Lord's prayer ( I know I will). I enjoyed it, it is more intimate than, say, St. Macarius of Corinths "Seven mysteries of the Lord's Prayer," but not so much as to leave one wanting for a better grasp of the biblical concepts expressed in the prayer. I'd recommend it for any Christian, and even non -Christians who are just interested in learning more about the one prayer virtually everyone in Western society knows by heart.
