Mr O'Neill dies, and while the family is still mourning, his spirit takes up residence in the tree in the back garden. He calls to his wife and children who, one by one, climb high up in the branches to listen. Consoled by his presence, they refuse to let him go - for a second time. But when they finally learn to accept their loss and try to pick up the pieces, the tree begins to take on a life of its own.
