Wilder Girls meets Outer Banks where a group of scuba diving friends stumbles across lost treasure, a legendary cave, and a new type of power... that comes at a price.

The deeper you go, the darker you fall.

Phoebe “Phibs” Ray is never more at home than when she’s underwater. On a dive six months ago, she and her four closest friends discovered a handful of ancient gold coins, rocketing them into social media fame. Now, their final summer together after high school, they’re taking one last trip to a distant Australian island to do what they love most – scuba dive.

While diving a local reef, Phibs discovers a spectacular underwater sea cave, rumored to be a lost cave with a buried treasure. But when Phibs and her best friend Gabe surface from the cave, they notice that they're undergoing strange changes. Oozing gashes that don’t heal. Haunting whispers in their heads... Something has latched onto them, lurking beneath their skin, transforming them from the inside out.

When treasure hunters arrive, desperate to find the location of the cave and hold Phibs’ group for ransom, she’ll do anything to keep her friends safe. In the process she learns that, of all the dreadful creatures of the sea, she might be the most terrifying of them all.

This was incredible. The writing was smooth and flowing. the main character made you feel every emotion she was going through, and it was simply a breathtaking story. So much more then I expected.

I listened to this with my teen. We loved the underwater scenes. It got him excited to snorkel this summer.

Cute story for teens with a little adventure, adversity and coming of age. Divers will be disappointed in the language.

I don’t have much to share about this book. It was written really well. There are a few cheesy moments, but I’m here for it. Rachel Reiss writes very well. I literally saw the ocean, the boat, the dock, the cave all of it vividly. Just fyi: this book goes back and forth from the past to the present throughout the book. In my opinion it was done well.

I have dyslexia, so I like to listen to audiobooks, and the narrator, Gail Shalan, did a FANTASTIC job. I would listen to her work again. Also, a good narrator is nice but if the book isn’t written well, that can break it for me. And I felt like both author and narrator did their jobs extremely well. I would also consider reading more of Rachel Reiss’ works. This is definitely a YA book (Teenagers). I felt like this story was very clean. There is a lesbian couple, but it is such a minor detail. It really does not focus on that at all. So for anyone who is super conservative I would still recommend this book. It is very clean. Fun adventure!

The narrator ruins this book for me . Too much !!!! In every sentence - that’s all I could grasp was her level of pain in every single word ! Raised my anxiety level 5 points . Not something I could finish unfortunately. Should have just bought the book instead.

Interesting prospect of a story
