A Selection of Sermons on the Parables of Jesus

Jesus is sometimes spoken of as a master storyteller but the parables are not simply stories. Some are quite short, some are longer and contain various elements, verging on being allegories. Many invite us to become part of the parable and consider where we fit in. Some require a certain amount of thought to understand the point Jesus was making. And unlike a storyteller, be assured Jesus didn't just tell parables for fun or to entertain; there is always a purpose, a teaching point, a challenge, sometimes a rebuke. the traditional definition of a parable is usually "an earthly story with a heavenly meaning" although I quite like the definition my RE teacher gave (himself a Christian, I hasten to add) - "a heavenly story with no earthly meaning". On reflection, there might be an element of truth in this!
During the course of my ministry I have sometimes preached on parables as isolated sermons, someimes as part of a series. In this book I have simply gathered some of those sermons together. These sermons have been converted from sermon notes and, from experience, I know they will still retain typing errors and the frequent omission of words, most the definite article.
