In this book I am continuing to do what I have been doing for the best part of, I suppose eight or nine years. I am presenting a selection of sermons preached during my forty or so years as a Baptist minister, having now converted sermon notes into sentences. I don’t claim that the result is in particularly good English, however, since I have tried to retain a “spoken” style for easier reading.

The sermons in this book are, perhaps, a bit of a mixed bag regarding the Bible characters selected. There is not necessarily a theme connecting them. In fact, I have put these sermons together in one book simply because none of the series would be enough to constitute a single book. As for the title, I am still wrestling with this as I write this introduction. I have toyed with calling the book “Prophets and Loss” but have so far resisted the temptation. Check the title page to see if I resisted in the end or gave in! And if the latter, please excuse the corny pun!
