In the ancient, cobbled, backstreets of Budapest, that lie in the shadow of the Blue Danube, there sits a bar called Hat Harom. It was once frequented by a band of proud, old men. Sadly, they are all gone now. When they did gather together to reminisce, the conversation almost inevitably turned to a murky, November, Wembley afternoon, way back in 1953. And another far, less, happier, occasion under driving, Swiss rain, the 1954 World Cup final. The ‘Miracle of Berne’ the Germans labelled it, those of Magyar persuasion thought far differently. A period of Hungarian dominance when these same old men ruled the roost in world football. Champions in all but name. A time when they reached a unique peak of footballing perfection. The time of Hat Harom. The time of 6-3...And, ultimately, alas, ‘The Miracle of Berne’.

Love the beautiful game

Games were described so well I felt I was there. This historical account is not only about Puskas, but about the whole Hungarian team and the country under the USSR in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Very interesting - a compelling story well told.
