Hofrat Gilly restaurierte Schloß samt Dorf und gestaltete es zum anmutigen Sommersitz für Friedrich Wilhelm III. und Königin Luise um. Eine der jung verstorbenen Königin gewidmete Gedenktafel von Gottfried Schadow ist in der Dorfkirche zu sehen, deren Vorliebe für Paretz bei Fontane zu hören ist.
