In the haunting ruins of Almerry Castle, scarred by war and shadowed by secrets, a chance encounter between a spirited woman and a war-weary soldier ignites a passion that defies history's wounds in Passion's Lasting Promise, a Regency tale of love's enduring resilience.

In the enchanting sequel to Whispers of Desire journey back to a time of elegant Regency romance as Passion’s Lasting Promise unfolds.

Amidst the haunting ruins of Almerry Castle, a flicker of light guides the steps of Rebecca Summerville. Drawn by curiosity and an indomitable spirit, she stumbles upon an unexpected treasure—a chance encounter with Captain Camden Beauchamp. A soldier scarred by the trials of Waterloo, Camden seeks solace within the castle's walls, only to be met with Rebecca's spirited intrusion.

Haunted by the specter of her brother's tragic demise on the battlefield, Rebecca harbors a deep aversion to all things military. Yet, as fate weaves its threads, her fearless defiance and compassionate heart kindle a spark of desire in Camden, one he never thought possible. Determined to bridge the chasm between their war-weary souls, Camden yearns to claim her affections, while Rebecca guards her heart, afraid to risk another shattering loss.

United by the echoes of love's enduring legacy, can two souls scarred by the ravages of war find the courage to mend what the past has severed? As their worlds collide within the castle's ancient walls, they must navigate a landscape of tender longing and unspoken secrets. In Passion’s Lasting Promise, desire and resilience entwine, proving that even amidst the remnants of history, love's light can guide them through the darkness of their shared pasts.

Step into the shadows of Almerry Castle and let the echoes of love's enduring legacy guide you through a Regency tale where passion's promise ignites even the darkest corners of the heart.

This was a great start to a new series. The characters were endearing while the story line was engaging. The narrator did a terrific job of breathing life into the characters and made this a fun listen.

Even though I've listened to this entire audiobook, I don't quite understand how the title relates to the story. It's a very charming title, typical of many historical romances, but I much prefer it when a title reflects the story. I found the heroine a bit much, as she clung too long to her desire not to become involved with a soldier because she fears losing him in the course of his career. At least she listened when her sister-in-law discussed her own grief at the loss of her military husband, but it felt too little, too late. More was needed to divide this otherwise simpatico couple. I also despise it when authors have their characters not only break things off but also do so in a hurtful way specifically to cause pain to make the severing stick. If I never see that sad, horrible trope again, it will be too soon! I loved the hero's home, the perfect nearly Gothic castle in a somewhat ruined state. While he's been away, the heroine has been somewhat of its overseer, caretaker, and even protector as she admires its faded beauty and the love story attached to it. The meet-cute between the couple was a lot of fun, as she defended the place against its new owner, which, of course, she doesn't know. As you can tell, this story has its pluses and minuses. It could have been an excellent story but just missed the mark.

Rebecca Summerville is drawn again and again to Almerry Castle, delighted by the history behind it. But when she sees a military man snooping around, she assumes he is a trespasser and up to no good. Instead of moving away for safety, she angrily faces him down, only to find that Captain Camden Beauchamps is the actual owner of the castle. He finds himself delighted by the spirited young lady and is having thoughts of perhaps winning her heart. But Rebecca has lost her brother because of the military and is determined she will not risk the heartbreak she has seen her brother’s wife having to endure over his death. She refuses to ever give her love to a military man. Will she listen as Cameron tries to help her find healing over her brother’s death? Can their love of the castle’s legends inspire their own growing feelings? Will Cameron’s words and actions convince her to give their love a chance? The narrator for the audiobook version, Marynn Franklin, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.
