Child or career? - Pia Schönfeld from Hamburg had decided as a young woman to be a full-time mom, a choice that was scoffed at by other mothers and considered unemancipated. The young Pia was happy and enjoyed the intense time with her children while her husband Klaus took care of his job exclusively. The discredited, outdated role model worked because both spouses were satisfied and relaxed.

However, after twenty years, everything looks very different. Pia is about to turn fifty, the children are grown up, and her long marriage is falling apart. Disillusioned - and plagued by the annoying side effects of menopause - Pia believes the best time of her life is already behind her and not ahead, a depressing realization.
