Thought-provoking

Plain Girl would make a great book club discussion book! There were so many great pivot points of decision that each character had to make, depending on the others’ choices. The story illustrates well how life doesn’t just depend on our own choices, but how choices within a family particularly impact family members—not only for the present but for generations following. Topics for discussion might include tradition versus progress; religious traditions versus change; benefits and challenges of rigidity and structure; gifts from plain and simple lifestyles; the crucial need for safe communication—particularly between parents and children; mandatory education versus homeschooling; emotional and mental impact of clothing, etc.
